MAPS - Background
- Majlis Akreditasi dan Pendidikan Senibina (MAPS) Malaysia (previously known as MAPSM) and also known as the Council of Architectural Accreditation and Education Malaysia (CAAEM) is formed pursuant to paragraph (gb) of Section 4(1) of the Architects Act 1967 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”)
- MAPS Malaysia is formed pursuant to paragraph (gb) of Section 4(1) of the Act which stipulates the following:“to appoint a council, consisting of such members of the Board, Professional Architects and other persons as may be determined by the Board, to advise and regulate all matters relating to architectural and interior design education including the certification and recognition of such programmes”
- Under Section 4(1) of the Act, the Board is empowered:
to appoint a council, consisting of such members of the Board, Professional Architects and other persons as may be determined by the Board, to advise and regulate all matters relating to architectural and interior design education including the certification and recognition of such programmes.
Henceforth, the Council of Architectural Accreditation and Education of Malaysia (CAEEM) was formed and assumed responsibilities to lead, facilitate, coordinate, monitor, and regulate all matters relating to architectural education in this country including certification, accreditation, and recognition of such programme
The Board is responsible for determining the standard for entry into the architectural profession and the accreditation of architectural programmes for recognition by the Board. Henceforth, either directly or indirectly, the Board under Section 4(1) of the Act, is also empowered:
- to keep and maintain a Register of Professional Architects, Graduate Architects and architectural consultancy practices.”
- to appoint a council, consisting of such members of the Board, Professional Architects and other persons as may be determined by the Board, to conduct examinations for admission to the profession and other examination as deemed necessary by the Board.”
- to determine and regulate the conduct and ethics of Professional Architects, Graduate Architects, Interior Designers and Building Draughtsmen.”
- to provide scholarships and other facilities for the promotion of learning and education in connection with architecture, and to hold or cause to be held professional development programmes for Professional Architects, Graduate Architects, Interior Designers and Building Draughtsmen to further enhance their knowledge in the latest developments relating to that profession.”
For this purpose, the Council was formed under the auspices of the Board to regulate all matters relating to architectural education.
To Promote the Advancement and Development of Architectural Education in Malaysia.
- To advise The Board on the policy and duration of architectural education in Malaysia;
- To advise and regulate all matters relating to the implementation of architectural education;
- To co-ordinate educational matters in Schools of Architecture and other institutions conducting programmes relevant to the architectural and interior design;
- To recommend the accreditation and recognition of architectural and interior design programmes to the Board;
- To appoint representative to sit on any Boards, Committees or Bodies formed for any purpose affecting the architectural education;
- To form committees which may co-opt members from time to time;
- To work in collaboration with the Malaysian Qualification Agency or any succeeding body in the assessment and approval of architecture and interior design programmes; and
- Generally, to do all such acts, matters and things as are necessary to carry out the objectives of this Council
- Chairman – A Professional Architect to be appointed by the Board from among Board members excluding the President;
- Co–Chairman – A Professional Architect to be appointed by MAPS from among its members;
- Honorary Secretary – A member appointed by MAPS from amongst its members;
- Members;
- Six (6) academics to be appointed by the Board;
- Five (5) Professional Architects to be appointed by the Board;
- Three (3) Professional Architects to be nominated by the President of Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (one of whom shall be the chairperson of PAM’s Education Committee or his appointed representative;
- Chairman of the Council of Head of Architectural Schools (COHAS);
- One (1) person from Ministry of Education (MOE);
- One (1) person from Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA);
- One (1) person from Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (JPA);
- One (1) Professional Architect from the Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR);
- One (1) Professional Architect to represent the State of Sabah;
- One (1) Professional Architect to represent the State of Sarawak;
- One (1) person from among registered Interior Design
KADAR FI PERMOHONAN AKREDITASI DAN KELULUSAN PROGRAM SENIBINA & REKABENTUK DALAMAN
Nota : Bayaran sebanyak RM500 akan dikenakan oleh pihak MQA bagi permohonan Kelulusan Program dan permohonan Lawatan Akreditasi. Pihak IPT juga perlu menanggung kos perjalanan, penginapan dan lain-lain kos berkaitan semasa Lawatan diadakan sekiranya diperlukan
